Job Description

gui2de is recruiting Research Assistants to support Professor Andrew Zeitlin on the Rwanda Education portfolio, which examines policies to strengthen the recruitment, motivation, and retention of public-sector teachers in Rwanda, with a particular focus on the roles of teacher performance contracts and teacher-school matching mechanisms. Georgetown and its partners will assist Rwanda’s Ministry of Education to pilot and evaluate a new approach to match primary and secondary teachers to jobs in Rwanda’s education sector, eventually reaching more than 60,000 teachers. 

The Research Assistant will work under the Principal Investigators and Program Director to provide analytical and research development support.

Responsibilities 

The Research Assistant will:

  • Provide technical support to project research staff, including data cleaning and analysis;
  • Contribute to the research development, including secondary research and writing proposals;
  • Provide support on the development and maintenance of project materials;
  • Work with the Program Director, Data Analyst and Principal Investigators to refine research design, sampling, data management, and general research protocols;
  • Assist the project management team on tasks related to intervention operations, field staff collection, maintenance, and delivery of high quality data;
  • Support reporting to funders and partners regarding project activities and findings; and
  • Support the dissemination of results to policy and academic audiences.

Qualifications

  • Strong written and oral communication skills are required.
  • Interest in public policy/economics/education, or a field related to international economic development;
  • Experience with data management and econometrics preferred;
  • Knowledge of Stata and R is required;
  • Experience with Git/Github preferred;
  • Knowledge of SurveyCTO, SQL, LaTeX/Overleaf, Python, RShiny are a plus;
  • Experience in data collection, designing surveys, and field implementation a plus;
  • Experience in database design and maintenance a plus;
  • Experience in the design and analysis of educational assessments a plus;
