PPOL 6818: Experimental Design and Implementation
This course aims to provide the fundamentals of conducting social science research in practice. Complementing training in econometrics and statistical inference, this course will take students through all the steps of conducting a successful field research study, from research and survey design to data collection and analysis. Students will learn the fundamentals of study design, collaboration using Git and GitHub, data manipulation, analysis, visualization and programming with Stata, and survey coding and deployment with SurveyCTO. This class is highly practical and is meant to prepare students for professional roles in either international research institutions (including academia and labs) or monitoring and evaluation firms. Students will have the opportunity to develop a research project from beginning to end and acquire actionable skills through hands-on assignments each week. They will learn from the real-life experience of three experienced gui2de researchers. No prior programming experience is required or assumed; students should have a basic knowledge of statistics at the undergraduate level.
